Dental clinic a step closer

Tenders are being accepted for the construction of a four-storey public dental services clinic in Footscray. Health Minister David Davis said the state government had provided up to $9.7 million to build the 12-chair dental clinic as part of cohealth’s new community health centre in Paisley Street. Work will begin early next year, with the centre to open in 2016.

Hospital on bypass

A major gastro outbreak forced ambulances to bypass western suburbs hospitals last week. Western Health executive director of operations Russell Harrison said the outbreak combined with other factors to create “significant challenges” with access to beds.

Plan to rejuvenate park

Maribyrnong council has taken over management of Maribyrnong’s Pipemakers Park from Parks Victoria. Mayor Grant Miles said the park was a little rough around the edges. ‘‘It needs some TLC, such as work on the paths, grass cutting, weed maintenance and fencing improvements.” The council will spend $500,000 to address immediate maintenance needs.
