Barkly Village Progressive Dinner: Tastebuds to wander

Diners will be zig-zagging their way through West Footscray this month in the first ever Barkly Village Progressive Dinner.

The brainchild of resident Col Cameron, the October 29 fundraiser will involve up to 260 people sampling different courses and treats at four out of seven participating restaurants.

The restaurants are 540 on Barkly, Thai Angels, Hyderabad Inn, Akshaya Sweets and Chat, Magic Momo Kafe, Gusto at Barkly and newly opened Nuevo Latino.

Patrons will only be told the location of their first restaurant two days before the event. From there they will be guided to their second restaurant, and will again change for dessert.

Mr Cameron, who also created the Barkly Village Facebook page in February, says the event will raise funds for the West Footscray Neighbourhood House ‘Soulhouse’ men’s cooking program.

“I saw it as a way to connect all the different restaurants and get them working together,” he said.

“It’s also a way to raise funds for the Neighbourhood House to bring together older men living in the area.”

All restaurants will have live entertainment during the dinner and Spotswood brewery Two Birds Brewing will bring a mobile brewing station.

Newly opened Nuevo Latino will provide savoury and sweet tapas for all participants during the restaurant changeovers.

Deputy mayor Nam Quach says the Barkly Village Progressive Dinner is a great initiative that “celebrates a diverse palette of local flavours”.

The dinner will be from 7-10.30pm on Wednesday, October 29.

Tickets are $60 and available at www.trybooking.com/FXUF
