Werribee Districts onballer Matt Dean has taken out the Barry Priest Medal for best and fairest in Western Region Football League’s division 1. Parkside captain Chris Muratore was adjudged champion player of division 2, capping a memorable season in which his side took out the premiership. Wyndham Suns will become the 25th senior WRFL club after being granted a spot in division 3 next season.

Cricket

Williamstown posted 176 on the opening day of the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association season against Balwyn at Williamstown Cricket Ground.

The Seagulls’ total was drip fed by Luke Rainone (44), Matthew Dervan (28), Jonty Paulsen (28) and Craig Sheedy (24no). Balwyn was 0-7 at stumps. Yarraville was set a massive 276 for victory at Plenty Valley.

Baseball

Newly promoted Williamstown Wolves impressed on the opening day of the Baseball Victoria summer league division 1 season, recording a 9-2 win over Geelong Baycats at Greenwich Reserve. The game marked the debut of Wolves’ boom recruit Andrew Russell, who performed strongly on the mound over six innings. Newport Rams had a rocky start with a 15-5 loss to Preston at KC White Reserve.
