Church fete

The Anglican Parish of Altona/Laverton is holding a spring carnival fete on October 24 from 10am-2pm. The fete, at St Eanswythe’s Church, Queen Street, Altona, will have homemade cakes, jams and marmalades, crafts, books, toys, plants and a sausage sizzle. Funds raised will be used to provide community services.

Music collective

The Footscray Music Collective is raising funds to give local musicians and performers access to professional stage equipment for use in local music venues. To support the campaign, the Footscray Gypsies and DJ Senor Love Daddy will perform at the Footscray Hotel from 8pm Saturday.

Festival flicks sought

The Setting Sun Short Film Festival is calling for entries. Films will be screened at the Sun Theatre, Yarraville, April 16-19 next year. More than $5000 in prizes will be up for grabs. Entries close January 31.

Farmers market

Altona Primary School Farmers Market is on October 17 from 9am-1pm. The market, at 109 Blyth Street, Altona, will have artisan breads, meat, preserves, fruit and vegetables, plants, pony rides, and more.

Green lessons

Learn how to save money and reduce your carbon footprint. Challenge to Change and Lighting the West will join forces to host two free workshops on energy efficiency, from 11am-12.30pm this Saturday at Footscray library and 6.30-8pm, Wednesday, October 22, at Braybrook Community Centre.

Market day

Annecto David House will host a market day, 9am-2pm this Saturday, featuring live music, Devonshire tea, a barbecue and lots more. Enter via Kingston Street, Yarraville.

Hospital volunteers

Mature volunteers are being sought for an ongoing role in the Footscray Hospital emergency department. Excellent communication skills are a must; shift times are 9am-noon.

Civic awards

Maribyrnong council is calling for nominations of people who have made a real difference. The Maribyrnong Civic Awards celebrate the work of individuals and organisations who contribute to improving community life. Nominations close 5pm, Friday, October 24.
