WDCA: Williamstown Colts take top spot with win over Caroline Springs

Williamstown Colts have burst to the top of the Williamstown and District Cricket Association A-turf ladder with a 107-run mauling of Caroline Springs at Greenwich Reserve on Saturday.

The Colts remain one of only three undefeated sides after two rounds but sit on the top rung with far superior percentage.

They underlined their batting strength in the win by making 5-242 off 40 overs.

Robert Harb (77), who featured in a 118-run opening stand with Will Phillips (37), and Abhilash Sharma (70) led the way, while Joel Kitchen was 34 not out at the close.

Nat Ward (3-39) and Rikki Shukla (4-14) made the run chase impossible
for the Springs, who were dismissed for 135.

In other matches, Gellibrand is behind the eight ball after dropping its first two matches of the season.

It lost by six wickets at home to Melton Centrals.

Bellbridge comprehensively beat Williamstown Congs by 123.

Josh Downie (74) and Matthew Edsall (51) were the cornerstones of Bellbridge’s imposing score of 8-198.

The Congs were skittled for just 75 with Jake Styles (3-19) and Patrick Lee (3-9) impressing.
