Community spirit is what it’s all about at the Altona Sports Club with about 4000 members on the books to date.
There is a range of services and activities on offer and the club hosts various sports including bowling, cricket and fishing, as well as dancing, karaoke and live shows. Functions, such as wedding receptions and birthdays, can also be held at the club.
“We are a community club offering a varied and diverse range of services that the locals love,” says manager Jeff Mill. “We hold our community and its citizens in high regard.”
The friendly staff also embody this philosophy.
“Our staff are very loyal and long-serving, with most living within our community. We all have a strong focus on meeting the needs of our members and guests.”
Aside from sporting activities, patrons can enjoy a great meal in the club’s Bayview Bistro with spectacular foreshore vistas, or drop by Seaview Lounge which is a casual bar that’s also set up to host small gatherings.
The bistro opens Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner and serves up arguably the best Sunday breakfast in the area.
“We have three function rooms able to cater from 90 to 300 people, so regardless of your function needs we have it covered.” Jeff says.
“Our chef, Martin, maintains his popular menu for lunch and dinner. Beakfast on a Sunday is from 8.30am to 11am [and] it would be hard to find a better view while you eat your breakfast.
“Martin and Lauren, who run the bistro, have their heart in it and they provide good old-fashioned service. Martin often visits our diners during meals to say hello and get their feedback.”
On a Friday and Saturday night, the lounge has live bands or karaoke. Patrons can bust a move on the dance floor or take in twilight views of Altona beach.
The beer garden, open all year round, is becoming a popular part of the club and members flock to the sports bar which overlooks the bowls green – a popular spot to unwind after work. The sports bar has three large pool tables or members can join in a poker game on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
