Mobil wants Yarraville pipeline

Mobil is seeking approval to build a 2.7 kilometre pipeline connecting its Yarraville terminal to the Somerton pipeline in Hall Street, Newport, allowing jet fuel to be pumped directly to Melbourne Airport. A shortfall of up to a million litres of jet fuel is currently transported by truck from Yarraville to the airport each day. The proposed pipeline would run next to existing pipelines through land owned by the Port of Melbourne Corporation along the Yarra River and then under Douglas Parade and along Burleigh Street and Hall Street. It would allow the Yarraville terminal to transfer up to 3.6 million litres of jet fuel via the Somerton pipeline in a 12-hour period.
