You can find your home in your heart no matter where you are, which is what West Footscray author Tania Morgan encapsulates in her new book.
Ms Morgan is launching A Very Special Place this Saturday at the Maribyrnong Makers Market.
The book, written for children aged four to seven, was inspired by Ms Morgan’s travels and her journey of self-discovery.
“While away from home, I realised that no matter where you are, a home is something that you take along with you everywhere,” she said.
Ms Morgan collaborated with Hobart-based illustrator Jessica Burdon in bringing her words to life.
“Many children’s books are educational in their own way,” she said. “This story aims to evoke a sense of warmth for children and a feeling of comfort within their own home.”
The book launch will feature face-painting, a petting zoo, a colouring-in competition, readings and the announcement of A Very Special Place prize pack winner.
Ms Morgan will donate 10 per cent of the proceedings from the launch to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
“The message in this story is about being able to find your home wherever you go, and I thought it aligned really well with asylum seekers, who constantly strive to find their own home within this world,” she said.
The year’s biggest Maribyrnong Makers Market will feature more than 70 stallholders over two sites, from 9.30am-3.30pm on Saturday at Seddon Uniting Church and nearby Harris Reserve.
