Altona: Lucky escape for toddler hit by car on the Esplanade

An 18-month-old girl was hit by a car and thrown one-and-a-half metres in the air at Altona beach on Sunday night.

Police Sergeant Jason Van Doren said it was “only by the grace of God” that the girl escaped with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck about 6.15pm on the Esplanade, near Romawi Street.

He said the girl’s father had become distracted by another young child, and the girl ran on to the road straight in front of a car.

The Altona girl was admitted to hospital overnight for checks before being discharged.
