Setting Sun film festival

Outdoor movies
Bring a rug, chairs and pack a picnic for free outdoor family movie screenings at dusk (about 8.45pm). Upcoming screenings are Guardians of the Galaxy (M) on Friday at Commonwealth Reserve in Williamstown and How to Train your Dragon 2 (M) next week, on January 30, at Logan Reserve in Altona.

Botanic art classes are being offered at Altona’s Louis Joel centre on Thursday nights and Friday mornings, starting early February. Learn to paint botanic subjects with watercolour. No experience needed.

Speaking up
Aero Speakers Toastmasters Club meets on the first and third Thursday of the month from 7pm at Laverton Community Hub, Railway Avenue, Laverton. Young parents
Parents aged 16 to 25 who want to meet other young parents in their local area are invited to free groups that meet in Laverton on Mondays from 10am-11.30am, Altona Meadows on Mondays from 1pm-2.30pm and Sunshine on Fridays from 12:30-2.30pm. Bring your children and meet other young parents. The groups organise fun activities for the kids and go on outings to the zoo, Scienceworks and other places. Contact Mary for details.

Dog agility
Get some exercise and have fun with your dog. The Agility Dog Club of Victoria trains on Friday nights under lights at WLJ Crofts Reserve, Blackshaws Road, Altona North. All breeds of dog and age groups are welcome. New members’ classes begin about now. Numbers are limited. Call to reserve a place.

Bingo bonanza
Laverton Bowling Club is holding bingo on Wednesdays with ‘eyes down’ at 8pm sharp. Bingo books are $7 for a set of 35 games, with the last game at 10pm paying $500 each week. Players get free raffle tickets.
