Some of Victoria’s finest aspiring athletes will go head to head at the fifth annual Maribyrnong Gift on Australia Day.
Hosted by St Andrews Cricket Club and the Victorian Athletic League, the Maribyrnong Gift is another Melbourne suburban athletics carnival – along with Northcote, St Albans and Avondale Heights – that’s becoming increasingly popular with athletes.
St Andrews Cricket Club representative Simon Krygger said the event promoted healthy and active lifestyles while bringing people together for family-friendly competition.
“What began initially as a small fundraising event for our club has become an important and exciting opportunity,” Krygger said.
“It’s the perfect way for the community to join in an exciting local event and enjoy the fun and interaction with athletes of all ages and abilities,” he said
Racing begins at noon at Braybrook’s Pennell Reserve and will feature the 120m Maribyrnong Gift, a 120m women’s race, a 70m open, a 120m race for under 17s, a 300m open, a 300m women’s and veterans race, a 1600m open, and a 800m race for under 20s.
Krygger said the club was growing the free event through support from Maribyrnong council.
