Young Damien Parma can’t wait for Australia Day.
The six-year-old Altona boy is fascinated with the Australian flag and Altona beach is just about his favourite place.
His mum, Natalie Parma, said she and her husband, Daniel, built their family home near the beach about 10 years ago.
“During the summer months, and especially over the school holidays, the children love spending most of their time on the sand, building sandcastles and swimming in the water,” she said.
“We love the area – it’s a fantastic place to bring up kids … the beach is fantastic because it’s a very kid-friendly and you can walk for miles and miles without having to worry about large waves.”
She said Damien loved going to the beach with his 10-year-old sister, Naydean. Of course, his favourite beach towel features the Australian flag.
“Ever since he’s been little he’s always had a fascination with the Australian flag – he just loves it,” Ms Parma said.
“He was probably an old Australian pioneer in his past life … he really loves anything with the Australian flag.
“He’s got an Australia-flag picture on his wall in his bedroom, and he’s even partial to the British flag as well.”
Altona’s Australia Day celebrations will be held at the beach and surrounds from 11am-9pm.
