Local children will be helping to encourage Maribyrnong residents to reduce waste as part of a new recycling trial.
The youngsters have volunteered to appear on images on bins that will pop up in Yarraville and Seddon in the next couple of weeks, giving recycling a thumbs up.
The bins will be placed in the shopping strips in Charles Street and Wembley Avenue to encourage locals to recycle their waste.
Mayor Nam Quach praised the young volunteers and said the community can help reduce its impact on the environment by recycling more often.
“Our children are great ambassadors for our environment and their images will be a colourful reminder to recycle,” he said.
“With Clean Up Australia Day just around the corner on Sunday 1 March, now is the ideal time to clean up our act and help Keep Maribyrnong Beautiful.”
Cr Quach said if the trial proves sucessful more bins will be rolled out in other Maribyrnong shopping centres.
