Maribyrnong’s Go West festival will be part of the annual Midsumma Festival that celebrates gay culture.
Running from January 18 to February 8, the festival will embrace six events, including the Team Melbourne Sports Festival, which will take place on January 31 at Footscray Park and Victoria University.
Team Melbourne Sports spokesman Sebastian Delfino said the events would showcase sports available to the queer community.
“The day provides a space for all the sports to show what they do week in, week out at their sessions,” Mr Delfino said.
Maribyrnong mayor Nam Quach said the Go West events were a powerful way to bring people together and celebrate diversity.
“Our partnerships with organisations such as Midsumma have enabled us to build a truly dynamic Festival City program that delivers top-quality events in the City of Maribyrnong.”
Other Go West events include Edi Donald and the Transients, Miss Gay and Miss Transsexual Australia 2015, and an author talk with Daniel Witthaus.
As part of Go West, Hobsons Bay will host a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Altona Meadows library on Thursday from 7pm; Williamstown ghost tours until February 8; and a Sissy Boulevard queer cartoonist exhibition at Newport’s Substation until March 15.
