A teenager has been charged over a crash on the West Gate Bridge that left three people injured on Thursday morning.
Police allege the 19-year-old man, who was on bail for other offences, was driving a stolen car with three passengers on board when the vehicle ran into the back of a van in the inbound lanes of the West Gate Freeway about 2am.
The impact of the smash sent both vehicles into the guardrail. The van tipped onto its side and the car came to a stop some 60 metres away.
The car’s passengers (a 21-year-old Maryborough man, an 18-year-old Maryborough woman and a 15-year-old Dandenong girl) were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The 19-year-old learner driver was arrested at the scene and charged with 21 offences, including careless driving, driving at a dangerous speed, reckless conduct endangering life, robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, assault by kicking and theft from a shop.
The teen, from South Yarra, has also been charged with driving without a supervising driver and without L plates.
He will face Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.
The 43-year-old van driver from Mill Park escaped injury.
