Bowls

Premiership favourite Altona was made to earn every point by plucky finals contender Clayton in a Bowls Victoria premier division thriller on Saturday. The A’s claimed two of the four rinks in a nail-biting 87-83 victory that puts them 38 points clear on top of the table. Brad Peck (25-21) and Mathew Rennex (19-18) were the A’s winning skips, while Shane Fordham had a 22-22 draw. The A’s hit the road to face another flag contender, Melbourne, under lights on Friday night.

Cricket

Footscray Edgewater is staring down the barrel against lowly Greenvale Kangaroos in Victorian Premier Cricket at Greenvale Reserve. The Bulldogs were bowled out for a disappointing 188 on day one and the Roos were 2-75 at stumps. Unless the Dogs’ bowlers can pull out something special on Saturday, their side will be on the wrong side of the ledger for the fourth time in five games and their odds of reaching the finals will blow out significantly. Travis Dean was the Bulldogs’ leading scorer with 48.

Soccer
