Call for film entries

Entries for the inaugural Altona Beach Film Festival (ABFF) open on March1. This year’s theme is flight, with prizes awarded in four age categories. Films should be no longer than seven minutes, including titles and credits. Entries will be accepted on disc up to June 30. For more information visit the ABFF website or Facebook page.

Midsumma musings

Melbourne’s western region councils are hosting a GLBTIQ community forum at Newport’s Substation on February 18 at 6pm. On Thursday, from 5.30-7pm, a panel discussion about GLBTIQ issues, focusing on people living and working in Melbourne’s west, will be held at Footscray’s Bluestone Church Arts Space. The same night, from 6-7, activist and author Daniel Witthaus will be speaking about gay rights and issues and will reflect on his published works, including Beyond Priscilla: one gay man, one gay truck, one big idea. Sail away or kick back

Altona Yacht Club is hosting a free ‘discover sailing’ day as part of GOWEST events during the Midsumma Festival. Everyone is invited to crew up or kick back on land to enjoy music, food and drinks with fellow sailors. It runs from 2-10pm on February 15 at Cresser Reserve, corner Beach Street and Civic Parade, Seaholme.
