The intense rivalry between the Moonee Valley and Maribyrnong councils could not be split on the weekend.
The two municipalities met at Fairbairn Park as part of the councils’ Community Cricket World Cup.
The day celebrated the area’s sporting and cultural diversity, with five matches played throughout the day, as the 2007 ICC World Cup glimmered in the background.
The Moonee Valley-Maribyrnong clash was the final game of the day and ended in a draw.
“Good bowling on behalf of the Maribyrnong Mayor Nam Quach saw me exit the field but not before I got a few runs in,” Moonee Valley Mayor Narelle Sharpe said.
“Given the game was determined a draw, I think a rematch is in order.”
Sharpe labelled the day a “fantastic success”, with a big turnout and Strathmore, All Browns, ANA Sharks and Maribyrnong Park St Mary’s the other winners on the day.
