Altona indecent assault ‘disturbing’

Police are seeking a young man after the indecent assault of a woman at Altona railway station.

A man struck up a conversation with the young woman who works in Altona while she was waiting for a train about 4pm on January 28.

He allegedly became increasingly sexually explicit and started making demands and rubbing her hand. The woman claimed he then grabbed her inner thigh.

Senior Constable Stacey Maliko, of the transit crime investigation unit, said the woman made a small scene and told the man to leave her alone.

“The incident is quite disturbing,” Senior Constable Maliko said.

“The comments that the male has made to the woman are quite explicit and is obviously something we don’t want to continue to happen at railway stations across Victoria.

“He’s actually known to frequent the Altona railway station. The victim has encountered the male previously at the Altona railway station where he has wolf-whistled at her.”

The man identified himself to the woman as Maori. He is aged in his early to mid-20s, of average height and has a stocky build and short black hair.

He was wearing a black singlet, denim shorts and white runners with dark socks. Police were told the man has tattoos on his left forearm, including a design in script-style writing.
