Sunshine council wants its own radio station! And if it goes ahead with such an ambitious plan, it would mean that Radio West would also cover the Footscray district. Sunshine council says that a radio station would greatly assist the big migrant population in the western suburbs.

The death last Sunday morning of Footscray councillor, Keith Anderson, 54, has stunned councillors, town hall staff and the hundreds of Footscray people who knew and loved him. Cr Anderson died at the Western General Hospital about 8.30am, an hour and a half after complaining to his wife Roma about chest pains. He had had a heart attack. A few days earlier, at last week’s council meeting, Cr Anderson looked a picture of good health.

Two young members of a Williamstown motorcycle group were sentenced last Thursday to six weeks’ gaol for assaulting a man in an Altona street. They mistook their victim for a car driver whom they claim had been involved with them in incidents on the road a little earlier.
Christopher John Doyle, 18, of Woods Street, was convicted of assault by kicking and assault in company; George McLean, 19, of Melbourne Road, was convicted of assault in company.

In a strong attack yesterday, Cr Adelia Bernard called for the dismissal of Williamstown council. The city would be “better served” if the council was dismissed and Williamstown managed by the town hall’s officers, she said. “Common sense, the ability to interpret situations or have informed concern for the community do not exist in this council any longer.”
