Pets on show

Maribyrnong council is running a Pet Expo at Coulson Gardens, Maribyrnong, from 10am-2pm on Sunday. Animal management officers and vets will be on hand to answer questions and the council is offering microchipping at a discounted price of $25. Activities include a reptile display, pony rides, merry go rounds, jumping castles, dog lure coursing and an animal farm.

Activity zone approved

The state government has accepted Maribyrnong council’s request for Footscray to be declared an Activity Centre Zone. The new zone, expected to generate 7000 dwellings, 3400 jobs and 100,000 square metres of commercial floorspace, defines eight precincts and guides the form of development in each precinct.

EasyPark app

Maribyrnong council has introduced electronic parking payment to selected parking areas. The EasyPark app lets you pay remotely with credit and debit cards and will send you a reminder 15 minutes before your parking ends. Visit www.easypark.com.au.

Long wait for scans

Public hospital patients in the northern and western suburbs are waiting twice as long as those in the south for MRI and CT scans. The auditor-general has found the average waiting period at four hospitals in the northern and western metropolitan areas was 60 days, compared with 27 days in three public hospitals in the south.
