Bowls
It was a summer to savour for Altona Sports in Bowls Victoria’s division 2, but there was a bitter ending. The Sports were too good for the rest of the sides in their section, eventually beating Sunbury 77-68 in the section final. Unfortunately, their run at the divisional stage was brief, losing a quarter-final 86-73 to Melbourne (2) at the Maribyrnong Park Bowls Club on Saturday. Meanwhile, Altona will face Bundoora RSL in the premier division grand final at the Mulgrave Country Club on Sunday from 1pm.
Netball
City West Falcons has made it seven games without defeat to start the Victorian Netball League championship division. The Falcons smashed Yarra Valley Grammar Ariels 62-41 at the State Netball and Hockey Centre on Wednesday night. Falcons goal shooter Kath Knott landed 37 of 38 shots for a 98 per cent return, while Steph Tyrell converted 22 of 26. After a week’s rest, the top-of-the-table Falcons will return to the court next Wednesday to face the North East Blaze.
