An application to add a fourth storey to a Yarraville development has been rejected by Victoria’s planning tribunal.
Maribyrnong councillors last year unanimously rejected the plan for Yarraville village’s first four-storey residential development, at 66 Wilson Street, instead approving a modified three-storey proposal.
Developer Marwood Construction appealed the decision in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, pushing for its plan to build 14 dwellings in a series of two-, three- and four-storey buildings.
VCAT member Katherine Paterson last week found a four-storey building “would be inconsistent with fine grain building form within this area” and that “such a departure in built form is not supported by planning policy for this site”.
Maribyrnong council last month issued a stop-work order to Marwood Development over work it had begun in breach of permit conditions.
Meanwhile, Mahercorp, the developer of sites at 109 Anderson Street and 44-46 Fehon Street in Yarraville, has lodged an application for review to VCAT in the wake of Maribyrnong council’s refusal to grant its project a permit.
Mahercorp has proposed a three-storey apartment building containing 44 apartments for a 2440- square-metre corner site overlooking Beaton Reserve.
More than 70 objections were raised over the proposal’s size, amenity impact and lack of respect for neighbourhood character.
