Avenue of Honour revived
Maribyrnong council will mark the centenary of the Gallipoli landing by reviving Footscray’s Avenue of Honour, planting 146 lemon-scented gums and spotted gums along Geelong Road, between Ballarat Road and Gordon Street.
Early-years hub
Hobsons Bay council will undertake a feasibility study into building an early- years hub in the Altona-Seaholme area. The announcement follows the state government’s pre-election promise to contribute $1.6million to a new $6million early-years centre in Altona. Land is available on the Altona P-9 College site.

Street tree petition
Maribyrnong council has received a 47-signature petition calling for the removal of “stunted, slow-growing Tristaniopsis Laurina” trees in Empress Avenue, Kingsville. The petition argues the trees are failing to provide shade or amenity and are encroaching on the footpath, so should be replaced.
Palm Island story
Ilbijerri Theatre Company and Belvoir have created a new work based on the death of Mulrunji Doomadgee. Beautiful One Day is about life on Palm Island, with documentary-style footage, conversations, reportage, stories and images.
