VFL: Williamstown claims ladder perch with win over North Ballarat Roosters

Williamstown is flying high at the top of the Victorian Football League ladder.

The Seagulls are undefeated after three games with a huge percentage of 175.68.

The Andy Collins-coached side took North Ballarat Roosters to the cleaners in an 81-point win at Eureka Stadium on Saturday.

The tall and the short of the Seagulls’ forward line – Scott Clouston and Anthony Anastasiou – combined for six goals, three apiece.

Veteran Ben Jolley was named ‘best on ground’, with Adam Marcon, Peter Faulks and Jack Charleston also heavily influencing the outcome.

The Seagulls managed to keep the Roosters goalless up to half-time when they led by 58 points.

The second half was more of a contest but the result was never in doubt. The Seagulls will be out to maintain the rage when they host traditional rivals Port Melbourne at Burbank Oval on Sunday.

Fast-finishing Footscray fell short by four points against Collingwood at Victoria Park. After a slow start, which saw them trailing by 34 points at half-time, the Bulldogs booted 10 of the last 16 goals but fell agonisingly short in their comeback attempt.

Shane Biggs and Lachie Hunter were stand-outs for the Bulldogs. Jack Redpath was leading goalkicker with three.

The Bulldogs have an extra week to lick their wounds with a bye this weekend.
