Spotswood went for the throat early in its 44-point win over Albion in the Western Region Football League’s division 1 at JR Parsons Reserve on Saturday.
The Woodsmen piled on nine goals to nil with the wind in the first quarter and maintained a healthy buffer for the rest of the game to make it four wins in succession.
Murray Boyd was again the standout for the Woodsmen with five goals, while Lachlan Fairley, Tom Langlands and David Iaccarino were not too far behind their big man.
The second-placed Woodsmen will make the short trip to Altona in their next match on Saturday.
The Vikings enter the clash on the back of a 39-point loss to ladder leader Hoppers Crossing at Hogans Road Reserve on Saturday.
Tyler Healy played his best game for the Vikings since his return to the club, while Josh Rafferty, Cameron D’Altera and Daniel O’Leary snared two goals apiece.
But they struggled to contain Warriors small forward Jordan Mead, who wowed the crowd with seven goals.
The Vikings will lick their wounds and hope for a better result against Spotswood on what will be a big day for the club at JK Grant Reserve as it hosts its past players’ day.
In division 2, West Footscray was a 124-point winner over Glenorden after five goals each to Damien Yze and Munir El Houli and four to best-on-ground Rhys Bucktin.
The news was not so great for North Footscray, which suffered a shock 42-point loss to Caroline Springs, or for Yarraville-Seddon, beaten by 23 points at Wyndhamvale.
