Hobsons Bay council has rejected plans for a four-storey development at 97 Ferguson Street, Williamstown. Plans included demolition of an existing building to be replaced by three ground-floor commercial premises, 16 dwellings and basement parking. The application was rejected because of council concerns over heritage values and lack of adequate parking. The development required 41 spaces, but the developer allowed for only 23.

Check yourself for cancer

Rotary Clubs of Altona and Altona City have teamed up to provide Bowelscan testing kits at pharmacies in Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong. The $10 kit, which is to be used at home and returned to the pharmacy by June 19, helps detect bowel cancer in its early stages. Kits are at Martin Didzys, Tom Sarros and Tyrrell’s Caremore pharmacies in Altona, PharmaSave in Altona Meadows, Blackshaws Road Night Chemist in Altona North, Newport Pharmacy, Carnovale Pharmacy in Yarraville, and National and Priceline pharmacies in Williamstown.
