Officers rushed to extinguish a fire after a car was torched outside Footscray police station early Sunday morning.
The Jeep Wrangler, which was not a marked police car, was set alight in Hyde Street shortly after 2am.
Police rushed from the nearby station with a fire extinguisher in an attempt to put out the blaze.
An MFB spokesman said firefighters received a call at 2.13am and the fire was brought under control 10 minutes later.
Damage was confined to a mudguard of the vehicle.
Police are investigating the fire, which they say was deliberately lit.
No one was injured.
