Footscray author Jane Rawson wants people to read on in good cause

A Footscray author is giving bookworms and sometime readers a good excuse to curl up with a good read this winter.

Jane Rawson has launched the Just Read challenge, a fundraising initiative inspired by childhood challenges such as the MS Readathon.

People can choose as few or as many books as they wish to read during June and July and be sponsored by friends and family.

Ms Rawson said the idea was simple and will hopefully resonate with people while helping to raise funds for a good cause.

“I’m a writer and a reader who would like to extend the joy of reading to more people,” she said.

“I also started Just Read to raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, to help kids struggling to get access to books and struggling to learn to read without that access.”

She says encouraging children to read doesn’t guarantee a reader in later life but she hoped Just Read helps people get back into reading and to help others on the way.
