Hockey Victoria: Altona cashes in on ground switch

In-form Altona lapped up the chance to take on Essendon in its own backyard, cantering to a 4-1 victory and moving to the top of the Hockey Victoria men’s premier league ladder on score difference.

The A’s were supposed to be the visiting team on Saturday, but the Bombers’ hosting of the Junior Country Championships meant their home ground was unavailable and the game was re-located to JK Grant Reserve.

The A’s had four scorers, Ben Burriss, Harry Dolenc, Matthew Huf and Patrick Phillips.

The A’s will play Footscray in a derby at Footscray Hockey Centre on Saturday.

Footscray, which lost 1-0 to Camberwell last start, will be desperate for success having not won for four rounds.

In women’s premier league, Altona suffered a 1-0 loss to Essendon, keeping them third-last on the ladder.

Footscray remains in mid table after a 4-2 defeat against Camberwell.

The Dogs goal scorers were Olivia Colasurdo and Bethany Russ.
