Frock up for a swap at Seaworks in Williamstown

Williamstown is set to host its fifth Melbourne Frock Swap, a burgeoning second hand clothing market that stemmed from a Facebook phenomenon.

Rachael DiMauro, who co-founded the market with Nicole Boots, said the idea started from the Inner West Buy Swap & Sell Facebook page.

“We were buying a lot of clothes from there but it was so hard to try things on,” Ms DiMauro said.

“So we thought, wouldn’t it be good if we all got together and everybody brought all their stuff and there are change rooms and we could sell and buy and swap.

“We did a little one … but now we’re up to more than 70 stalls.

“Some people do bring vintage,” she said. “But really it’s about getting rid of stuff that’s in your wardrobe, that you don’t wear and it doesn’t fit you, and recycling it within the community.”

The frock swap will also feature the Birney & Co mobile retail tram, the Handmaker’s Factory doing alterations and workshops and a personal stylist consulting people on dressing to suit their body shape.

It will be held at Seaworks on June 14 from 10am-4pm and entry is $2.
