West Gate Freeway crash causes peak-hour traffic chaos

Three people have been taken to hospital after four separate crashes on the West Gate and Monash freeways, which have caused peak-hour traffic chaos.

A car and a truck were involved in a nose-to-tail crash on the West Gate Freeway, near Williamstown Road, before the West Gate Bridge shortly after 6.30am on Thursday.

About the same time, two vehicles collided in the far-right outbound lane of the Monash Freeway at Chadstone, about 500 metres before Warrigal Road.

A second nose-to-tail crash occurred in the far-right inbound lane of the freeway about 500 metres after Warrigal Road.

And a third crash occurred on the freeway at Narre Warren, near Narre Warren North Road.

The crashes caused delays of up to 90 minutes for commuters on the Monash Freeway, with inbound traffic slowing to a crawl from Huntingdale Road at Mount Waverley.

One person involved in a crash on the West Gate Freeway was taken by ambulance to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition.

Two women involved in one of the crashes on the Monash were taken to Dandenong Hospital and the Royal Melbourne Hospital with minor injuries.
