After a wait of 21 years, the state government has given Western General Hospital the go-ahead to plan extensions and alterations worth $15-$20 million. The plans will include the hospital’s overall development needs and will mean an end to the chaos and overcrowding, presently an everyday part of life at Western General.

Tenders were called at the weekend for construction of the big, sub-regional ambulance station in Blackshaws Road, Altona, near the Millers Road intersection.
The station will house eight ambulances and serve an area inside the pinpoints of Williamstown, West Footscray and Laverton.

Council valuations of many properties in the city of Williamstown will rise by 200 per cent, and even 300 per cent, the city valuer has reported to the council. He is at present working on a revaluation of rateable properties that will be completed in the middle of next year.

Footscray council has reacted to fears by shopkeepers and residents that a political war has erupted and that the Footscray bomber will strike again. Council has called for an urgent conference with top police officers. This has been prompted by the gelignite blast last Sunday week which demolished a tourist agency in Victoria Street, Footscray.
