Port Phillip Woollen Mill site land sold for housing

Property developer AV Jennings has bought the $350 million Waterline Place development on the former Port Phillip Woollen Mill site at Williamstown.

Evolve managing director Ashley Williams said his company received an unsolicited offer to purchase the site and the handover would happen in July.

“It’s anticipated the current develop- ment program will continue, with AV

Jennings commencing construction works for stage one in July and marketing of stage two in late 2015,” he said.

Waterline Place is a development of up to 850 dwellings, with a mix of apartments, townhouses and shops.

Evolve obtained a planning permit on appeal to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal for the first two stages, most recently for a 128-dwelling, 10-storey tower and 41 three-storey townhouses.

It also got a permit to demolish historic buildings on the site, including Victoria’s first three-storey brick hotel.

Williamstown MP Wade Noonan pledged to support Hobsons Bay council’s move to restrict building heights to 25 metres or about eight storeys on more than half the site, which does not yet have planning approval.

AV Jennings general manager Peter Vlitas said his company had been actively pursuing an infill project for a few years and looked forward to meeting with the council and Mr Noonan.
