Speeding charges

Police arrested a motorcyclist who was allegedly travelling at almost 200km/h in Laverton North on Thursday. About 1am, police observed the motorcycle near the intersection of Fitzgerald and Leakes roads, before allegedly clocking the rider travelling at 196km/h in a 70km/h zone. Police said the rider, a 22-year-old Wyndham Vale man, is expected to be charged with evading police, speeding and other traffic related offences.

Fire season

Residents and property owners are being urged to keep fire safety in mind, after the CFA officially launched Wyndham’s fire danger period last week. The fire danger period is expected to run until about May 1 next year. Wyndham’s community safety portfolio holder, Cr Kim McAliney, said it was important for all residents to know that they could face prosecution if they lit a fire in the open air without approval.
