VNL: Lightning in nail-biter

VU-WESTERN Lightning has moved into a three-way share of the lead in the Victorian Netball League championship division.

The Lightning won a nail-biter 34-33 over Monash University Central at the State Netball and Hockey Centre on Wednesday night.

Goal defence Brooke Thompson was best on court and goal shooter Melissa Macauley was on song with 22 from 30 attempts.

The City West Falcons were beaten 44-38 by the Southern Saints, despite a staring role from goal shooter Kathleen Knott, who hit 32 of her 40 shots.

There were no matches in the VNL on Anzac Day with the teams resting up for their return to the court on May 2.
