London 2012: Badminton pair fight hard but Games are over

WESTERN suburbs badminton stars Glenn Warfe and Ross Smith have finished their Olympic campaign after losing their three qualifying games.

Glenn Warfe and Ross Smith faced three of the best badminton nations in their group – China, Taiwan and Germany – and lost all three games.

The found it tough going from the start – being beaten by Chinese power pair Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng in their opening men’s doubles badminton clash.

Warfe is a Hoppers Crossing resident who works at Badminton Australia’s headquarters in Williamstown, and Smith is a former Victoria University student.

Sunshine’s Renuga Veeran and partner Leanne Choo battled hard but have also finished their Olympics campaign.

The Australians were toppled by Indonesia’s Meiliana Jauhari and Greysia Polii 21-11 20-22 21-13 in the first game and beat the South Africans 21-9 21-7 in another.
