YARRAVILLE mother Sarah Tait is savouring the glory of a silver medal in the women’s coxless pairs rowing at the Olympic Games last week.
Tait, 29, and her rowing partner Kate Hornsey, surged home over the final 500 metres to grab
silver – the first rowing medal for Australia at the London competition.
The pair finished behind Great Britain’s Helen Glover and Heather Stanning, who were the host’s first gold medallists of the Games.
Three-quarters of the way through the race, the Australian crew was fourth and with five strokes remaining they believed they had achieved bronze.
But as they hit the line they realised they’d won silver. Tait is captain of the Olympic rowing team at her third Olympics and the first mother selected in the squad.
■ Rachel Jarry and the Australian women’s basketball team were all set for a quarter-final clash with China this morning. And our one-man Australian wrestling team, Seddon-trained Farzad Tarash, will take to the mat in the 60kg freestyle men’s event on Saturday night (AEST).
