Newport concert designed to ‘soothe the soul’

INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed inner-west musicians will be drumming up support for peace – individually and internationally – in a special performance in Yarraville this Sunday.

Newport percussionist David Jones (pictured), winner of the 2010 Melbourne Prize for Music, will bring his acclaimed Sounds of Peace concert to Kindred Studios with special guests Carmen Warrington and Megan Kenny.

“The concert will be a total experience designed to soothe the soul and allow minds and bodies to bathe in the healing sounds and voices we’ll bring,” Jones said.

He will be using a 35-piece drum kit alongside Tibetan, Japanese and crystal singing bowls, a South African kalimba, Chinese gongs, a hybrid Indian drone and other instruments gathered from around the globe. Yes, he’ll be playing them all, just not all at once!

Fellow Newport resident Warrington has joined Jones on the Sounds of Peace tour throughout Australia, Japan and India. “This concert provides beautiful, soothing music to unwind to and gain a sense of well-being.”

The concert is at Kindred Studios, 212A Whitehall Street, Yarraville, at 7.30pm this Sunday. Tickets: $30 (concession $25).
