Newport swings into jazzy new theatre space

A night of swing and jazz music in Newport will help raise funds for The Substation’s new theatre space. Swing Station: A Night of Hoppin’ Mad Jazz happens this Saturday and features performances by Melbourne’s premiere swing DJs and big band Steve Purcell’s Pearly Shells Swing Orchestra. The audience will be treated to a complimentary dance lesson by swing champions Josh McKiterick and Noni Clarke. The 1930s mood will be enhanced by the Fly Me To the Moon Cocktail Bar, and Photographica Magnifica (pictured) will record mementoes of the night. Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed and most inspired dancers. Details: thesubstation.org.au or 93911110.
