DEALING with your bank or a finance lender can be an excruciating experience for most of us.
So much harder then for those with little grasp of English and the way the system works.
Footscray Community Legal Centre is holding ‘Bring Your Bank Accounts Days’ to help Burmese and Karen communities with financial options and offer guidance to ward off hardship.
The sessions have been organised after overwhelming pleas for help from people using the Refugee Financial Counselling Clinic.
Financial counsellor Anita Smith said: “We’ve found from the Bring Your Bills program that early intervention can help achieve a quick and effective resolution to problems and help overcome a lack of knowledge, fear of authority and a lack of trust in the dispute resolution process.”
The next Bring Your Bank Accounts Day is for Vietnamese residents. It is at the centre, Level 1, 72 Buckley Street, Footscray, on March 16 from 11am-3pm.Details, phone 96898444
