Learning Store helps nurse new careers

A LONG-held dream of becoming a nurse is much closer to reality for Victoria University student Maree Marks.

The western suburbs resident (pictured) has managed health food stores and enjoyed previous studies in natural medicine but wanted to make a “bigger difference”.

Self-doubt about such a life-changing decision threatened to scuttle her dreams until she came across the Learning Store.

A joint VU and Highpoint shopping centre initiative, the Learning Store helps match people with the right training for their chosen career path.

The majority of users are adults thinking of going back to study but not knowing where to start.

Now studying for a bachelor of nursing degree at the university, Ms Marks had several career counselling sessions that helped give her the confidence to take the plunge.

“Without the help of the Learning Store I basically wouldn’t have had a chance to pursue my goals and turn them to reality.”

The Learning Store is holding a forum to encourage people to return to study. It will be held from 6-8pm this Thursday.

Current and former VU students will speak about the issues they faced in returning to study and the available support.

The forum is at The Learning Store @ Highpoint, professional suite 1, level 4 Highpoint shopping centre.

Bookings: thelearningstore.highpoint@vu.edu.au or 0431656360.
