CITY West Falcons are one of two form teams in the Victorian Netball League.
The Marg Lind-coached outfit asserted its superiority with a crushing 51-31 win over Boroondara Genesis at the State Netball and Hockey Centre last Wednesday night.
The Falcons, level on points at the top of the table with Peninsula Waves, have put in the ground work for a shot at a finals double chance, with the top two breaking away in recent weeks.
The Falcons
held a double-your-score eight-point lead at the first break and further stretched their lead for the remainder of the game.
Kathleen Knott’s class came to the fore for the Falcons as she hit 31 of 33 shots. Maggie Lind battled for 12 of 21 before she was replaced with Julia Knott, who made eight of 11.
The Falcons get a chance to square off with their western suburbs neighbours VU-Western Lightning tonight at the SNHC from 8.20.
The Lightning have a huge week on the court. Games don’t get much bigger than a clash with the Falcons, and then on Sunday they face North East Blaze on the big stage at Hisense Arena as a curtain-raiser to the Melbourne Vixens-NSW Swifts clash in the ANZ championship.
It’s an important time in the Lightning season. It has tumbled to sixth on the ladder and coach Matt Hills will be desperate to see his team close the gap on the leading sides.
