Men’s community kitchen serves up friendship

THERE’S nothing half-baked about Maribyrnong Council’s latest initiative for connecting men in the area. At the end of this month, a Men’s Community Kitchen program will bring together men living in and around Maidstone and Braybrook to whip up healthy delights.

Participants will learn how to plan, cook and share nutritious, low-cost meals while spending time in a friendly setting.

Mayor John Cumming says the program will run for 12 months with the goal of becoming permanent.

“This program is a great way for men to get together, bond, be social and enjoy the benefits of cooking and eating a delicious and healthy meal,” he said. “I encourage all guys to get involved and give it a go.”

The monthly program will help connect men with the area’s other activities and services, including garden programs and a tool library.

The Men’s Community Kitchen group meets at Maidstone Community Centre on the fourth Monday each month.
