IT’S healthier than chocolate frogs and longer-lasting than lamingtons.
Footscray West Primary School’s latest fund-raiser has taken shape in the form of a Parents’ Small Business Directory.
The eye-catching guide is a blast from the past, featuring a selection of vintage photographs and revealing snapshots of the Footscray area’s history.
Published in booklet form and posted on the school’s website, the directory advertises the businesses of parents whose children attend the school.
From cafes to counsellors, painters to piano teachers, 29 businesses have advertised in the directory.
Directory co-ordinator and local naturopath Monique Camilleri says the directory encourages local investment at the same time as helping families get to know one another.
“I’ve been living here in the City of Maribyrnong for 15 years and I love to support local businesses, especially people I know, but it can be difficult finding people in the immediate area when you need them,”
she said.
“As I got to know other parents and some of the local businesses they run, I thought creating a directory would be a good way to support one another, and fund-raise for our school at the same time.”
Ms Camilleri said she found it exciting to discover the diversity and talent spread across the school community.
