London 2012: Yarraville’s Sarah Tait basks in silver glow

YARRAVILLE’S Sarah Tait is still savouring the glory of an Olympic silver medal in the women’s pair rowing event at Eton Dorney.

Tait, 29, and her partner Kate Hornsey surged home over the final 500 metres to grab silver and the first rowing medal for Australia at the Games.

They finished behind the British pair – the host’s first gold medalists of the Games.

Three-quarters of the way through the race the Australian crew was fourth and with five strokes remaining believed they had achieved bronze. As they hit the line they realised they had won silver.

Tait is the captain of the Olympic rowing team, in her third Olympics and the first mother selected in the squad.
