THE warm glow as you sip your latte, flat white or espresso shot this Friday will be that little bit warmer if your coffee is savoured at one of the cafes taking part in the 2012 CafeSmart initiative.
To mark National Homeless Persons Week, participating cafes will donate $1 from every coffee sold to CafeSmart, a StreetSmart fund-raiser helping to tackle homelessness.
Kate Rogers, of Sourdough Kitchen in Seddon, said CafeSmart raised $47,477 last year to assist 38 local projects.
“We’re really excited to be part of this event and able to donate money that will directly benefit grassroots projects in our local area,” she said.
“Even if you don’t drink coffee feel free to come in and make a donation.”
StreetSmart chief executive Adam Robinson said cafes around Australia had come together for a national day of action with a very local outcome.
“So on August 10, make a special effort to visit a participating café, encourage your friends and work colleagues and enjoy your favourite brew or maybe two.”
Participating cafes include Sourdough Kitchen and Common Galaxia in Seddon; West 48 and Footscray Milking Station in Footscray; and Kingsville’s Petitou.
