Pupils of St Mary’s Primary School at Williamstown last week cleaned up their local beach as part of Kids Teaching Kids Week.
Under the national program, more than 10,000 children looked at environmental issues such as climate change, water, waste, conservation, energy, drought, population and pollution.
Pupils Jessica, Harrison, Catherine and Grace combed Williamstown beach for rubbish. S
t Mary’s also hosted a mini-conference with nine other schools, discussing the state of marine waterways and the effects of water pollution on macro-invertebrate populations.
Grade 6 pupil Lachie said he was inspired by his teachers to investigate environmental issues.
“I loved researching my topic that focused on finding solutions to the human pollution problems at our own local Jawbone Reserve.”
