Photo project records ever-changing Footscray

THE changing face of Footscray will soon decorate shop windows as part of the f5: Footscray in Transition photography project.

Photographer Grant Hobson  takes over for the second year of the five-year project to capture the physical and cultural changes around Footscray.

Large photos will be placed on shop windows alongside writing from Victoria University staff and students.

Maribyrnong Mayor John Cumming said the project would tie into the council’s Footscray on the Edge: Public Art Festival on November 15.

“Footscray is a city in transition and over the next few years change in Footscray will be both profound and inevitable,” he said.

“We believe the arts are an important way to record and respond to these changes as they occur.”

The project focuses on key sites including Irving Street, Footscray Station, Nicholson Street Bridge, Little Saigon and the Olympic doughnut van.
