We’re just all  kindred spirits

MORE than 150 performers, yogis and healers will be in Yarraville this weekend for the inaugural Kindred Spirit Festival.

A celebration of music, movement and meditation, the festival will be held across 12 stages and studios at Kindred Studios.

The festival features local and national talent including Newport’s drumming master David Jones and performer Carmen Warrington, alongside the Melbourne Mass Gospel Choir, Sound Weaver and Mantra Dance.

Warrington says the event will be unlike anything Melbourne has  seen.

“I’m absolutely ecstatic to be involved. This is the kind of thing you normally need to get away to a festival out of the city to find, but it’s right here on our doorstep.”

The festival will features market and food stalls, a chanting room, meditation, massage and sound healing.

Warrington says Kindred Studios is the  ideal location as it has a history of bringing together people “who come from the heart”.

The marriage of live music and meditation is something she has long incorporated into her own life.

“Musicians are going to help create that positive atmosphere. There is something about the immediacy of the communication that is a combination of everyone’s heart and minds.”

Warrington expects a good turnout from people already interested in meditation and healing but hopes the event will attract the “curious” as well.
